Scuola Virgilio is an Italian language school proposing intensive Italian language classes in Italy. Our Italian language courses in Sicily can offer you a study abroad program with the right balance between Italian language study, Italian culture courses (Italian cinema, cooking, history of Italy...), outdoor activities and pure fun.

Thanks to the beauties of Trapani and to our cosmopolitan young staff of mother tongue Italian teachers we can offer you the perfect mix to make the most of your study holidays in Sicily.

Come study Italian in Sicily with us and join our intensive Italian courses.

Italian group courses and Italian private classes are open to everybody from 18 years old up. Our intensive summer programs are based on small group Italian classes of 15 hours per week, 3 hours a day every morning Monday to Friday. A standard course lasts two weeks, although Scuola Virgilio offers Italian tuition from one up to eight weeks.

One-to-one Italian private courses are available upon request.

In addition to studying Italian you can also attend our Italian culture classes and Italian/Sicilian cookery courses followed by a dinner.

Do our Italian test (→ it's just here) now to assess your level, or contact us for more information. Enrollment fees include a two-week full-immersion Italian course, individualised support in finding the travel and accommodation solution that best suits you, one outdoor activity and special discounts in several local shops and restaurants.

During your study holiday you will be free to discover new places on your own or with us, by participating to the visits, excursions and other outdoor activities we offer. Trapani is a laid-back seaside town the ideal size to walk or cycle through, between the breath-taking mount Erice and the wonderful Egadi Islands, next to the archaeological sites of  Mozia, Segesta, Selinunte, the lively towns of Favignana, Marsala, Castellammare del Golfo, the wildlife of  San Vito lo Capo, Scopello and Lo Zingaro.

Your study stay in Sicily with Scuola Virgilio can be part of a larger  trip to Sicily. East of Trapani you can discover the capital Palermo, Agrigento and its Valley of Temples, Syracuse and the baroque Ragusa and Val di Noto, the volcanoes of the Aeolian Islands and awesome Mount Etna that dominates Catania and Taormina.

Having fun while learning is certainly possible in Italy! After spending some days in the most famous tourist spots of Rome and other places in the country, you may opt to extend your stay in Italy for a more productive activity—learning the Italian language in an equally interesting destination, Sicily. Since there are many accommodation sites in this area that are as cosy and affordable as Rome apartments, looking for a good place to stay while you spend your summer here is not a problem. Check out the programs below; and be ready to master the Italian language, and of course, culture.

By the way... Why learn Italian in Italy and why learn Italian in Sicily?

If you wish to learn or improve Italian, then you should come and study in Italy. If you study Italian in Italy you will not only practice Italian in its authentic context, but also you will enjoy all of Italy’s charms: ancient art, varied beautiful landscapes, welcoming people, delicious food...

There are many regions in Italy, each one with its flavours and its unique perspective on Italian history, Italian lifestyle, Italian landscape...

Frankly, what do you think of when you think of holidays in Italy? Sea, sun, wild islands, ancient cathedrals, vine-planted hills, country houses amid olive groves, Greek temples, Roman theatres, delicious (and affordable...) typical Italian food and Italian wine, open air Italian opera concerts...

In Sicily we’ve got it all... plus many more things that make our region really unique. For example, Sicily is the birthplace of Italian poetry and Italian literature that first appeared here in the XII century. In the same fashion, the Italian novel and modern Italian prose from the late XIX up to the early XXI century have been shaped and reshaped by Sicilian writers such as Verga, Pirandello, Sciascia, Camilleri, and many others.

As German poet Goethe once put it: “Without Sicily, Italy leaves no image in the soul. Here is the key to everything.”

Why learn Italian after all...?

Because Italian is the language of arts, of music, of cooking, of fashion... of Dante, Leonardo, Michelangelo... Rossini, Verdi, Puccini...  Throughout history, Italian art, Italian music, Italian cooking, Italian fashion have been seminal to the rest of the world. Whatever your mother tongue is, look into a dictionnary and find out how many Italian words it contains!

Because it is common knowledge that Italian is not only beautiful, but also sexy! Back in the XVI Century, Emperor Charles V said: “I speak Spanish to God, French to men... and I speak Italian to women.” Do you think the most powerful man of his time could be wrong...?
